My Neighbor Totoro (Tonari no Totoro) is one of the most loved movies by director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. It was released in 1988 and won the Animage Anime Grand Prix prize the same year. For those not familiar with the movie, the story is about two young girls who move into a new house in the countryside and befriend mysterious forest spirits, totoros (mispronunciation of the phonetic japanese pronunciation of troll, "torōru"). In its own slow-paced and childlike imagination-driven rhythm the movie is a magical journey and one of the rare movies that truly keep alive the feeling of childhood, reminding us all what it was like to be a child.
